The Appropriateness of Sharing A Loss Via Social Media

So there I was... So there I was, finishing up with an interview with a company that was recruiting for sales professionals, when I received a message via Facebook from my sister in Helena. I had messaged her for Dad's number. I had not spoken to him in several years, but I was attempting to contact him on behalf of my cousin, Tony. My father was given several items that belonged to Tony's father who had passed, with the instructions to pass these items on to Tony when he turned 18.  My cousin asked for my help to obtain the things his father had left for his only son.  So I opened messenger, and read the words, "Dad passed over a year ago. I thought I sent you a message." A message? No, I didn't receive any message. Nor should I have. At the very least, I should have received a telephone call. Admittedly, I was not close to my Father. My parents divorced when I was two years old. During my childhood, he would make random appearances in my life, and always with so...

Can Anyone Get Paid to Write?

Have you always enjoyed writing? Growing up, did you write short stories or create poetry?  In the 6th grade, I wrote my own little  "newspaper" for the apartment complex we were living in. I even included recipes and puzzles! The manager allowed me to make copies and I distributed them to all the tenants.  I've always had a vivid imagination, and I have always enjoyed creating, whether it was writing short stories, doing sketches, painting, crafting projects with wood, and most recently, through digital design. I've always had what I term as "the artist's eye" for composition, and choosing which item to add to compliment the end result.  There are so many opportunities to create, and a large number of companies who are willing to pay you for your creations. Businesses are in constant need of great content for their social media business pages, new information for their websites, and ideas for marketing and advertising their products and services.  I hav...

Is Anyone Out There?

So there I was... So there I was, sharing yet another event, fundraiser, Easter egg hunt, concert, grand opening, etc...you get my point, and it suddenly occurred to me; does anyone even go to any of these events?  In my opinion, social isolation has become a real issue. Following the impact of covid,  people were required to come up with alternate ways of interacting with each other. Factor in the rise in popularity of social media, and you have a population that's become more comfortable socializing remotely. Even dating has fallen victim, with dating apps like Plenty of Fish, Tinder, and Match.com. registering millions of downloads.  Is this becoming the new norm, or are we already there? Is it an issue of being afraid? Or comfortable?  Recent statistics reveal that the vast majority of people now prefer the home for nearly every aspect of their daily lives. Working remotely has become the preferred option for many, and I don't see that changing anytime soon....

Marketing 101

The benefits of helping others reach their goals are immeasurable. As a membership representative for the National Federation for Independent Business, or NFIB, I learned quite a bit about the difficulty associated with running a small business. Sadly, our very own government is the the source of a good portion of the "pain points" small business owners face. Frivolous regulations and unnecessary mandates hinder their ability to devote the necessary time to the things that matter most. Of all the small business owners I have spoken to, it seems the number one area they have not adequetly planned for is marketing. Oddly enough, marketing is often the deciding factor between businessman who become successful and those that fail. An area that important would be on the top of everyone's business plan, right? Wrong. It's generally the last thing added, behind inventory, menus, curtains, etc. and it's the first item cut from the budget when start up costs run higher tha...
